Undergraduate Food Scientist - $23.75/hr
Part Time | 12 to 15 hours per week
1-Year Assignment | 8:00am Start

We are seeking a motivated Undergraduate Food Science Student to support Research & Development activities in a commercial bakery mix manufacturing environment. This part time role offers hands on experience in product formulation, bench top testing, analytical measurements, and pilot scale trials. This is an excellent opportunity to gain real world product development experience while continuing your education.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare bench-top prototypes for dry and wet bakery mixes (cakes, muffins, breads, cookies, glazes, icings)
• Conduct controlled experiments following established R&D protocols
• Perform basic analytical testing (pH, water activity, viscosity, moisture)
• Support shelf-life and stability studies
• Maintain organized lab notebooks, digital documentation, and sample inventory
• Assist with pilot-scale trials, line tests, and plant validations
• Follow all food safety and laboratory safety procedures

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Food Science, Food Technology, or related field
• Basic knowledge of food chemistry, baking science, and ingredient functionality
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Comfortable collecting data and using Microsoft Excel and Word
• Ability to work safely in lab and production environments
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods during trials
• Flexible availability to accommodate production and academic schedules
