Job Title: Locomotive Mechanic

Location: Various (Travel Required)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Locomotive Mechanic to maintain, repair, and overhaul locomotives to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role requires traveling to multiple rail yards, maintenance facilities, and project sites as needed. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical skills, experience with diesel-electric and/or electric locomotives, and the flexibility to work in different locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair locomotive engines, braking systems, electrical systems, and other mechanical components.
  • Perform routine maintenance and preventive inspections to ensure locomotives operate safely and efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Overhaul or replace defective parts and components following safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and reports.
  • Collaborate with other team members, engineers, and operational staff to prioritize repairs and maintenance schedules.
  • Travel to assigned locations to perform on-site inspections, repairs, and emergency services as required.
  • Follow all safety regulations and company policies while working in different facilities or in the field.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics or locomotive repair preferred.
  • Proven experience as a locomotive mechanic, diesel mechanic, or similar role in a transportation or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, air brake systems, and locomotive components.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently for work assignments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to work in varied environments, including outdoors, on tracks, or in workshops.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certification in locomotive or diesel repair (e.g., ASE, FRA certification).
  • Experience with computerized diagnostic tools and maintenance software.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
