Substitute Teacher 

Eligibility Requirements:
To qualify for substitute teaching, candidates must:

• Be at least 18 years of age;
• Possess a high school diploma or have passed a Board of Education–approved high school equivalency examination; and
• Hold an associate’s degree or higher, or have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours from an accredited institution of higher learning.

Role Description:
A substitute teacher is defined as:

• An individual employed to temporarily replace a contracted teacher during their absence; or
• An individual employed to fill a teacher vacancy for a limited period, not exceeding 90 teaching days per vacancy in a single school year, unless otherwise approved by the Superintendent of Public Instruction on a case-by-case basis.
