Inventory Specialist

JOB PURPOSE
The Inventory Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining accurate inventory records for a high-volume book distribution operation. The Inventory Specialist will perform cycle counts, assist with reconciling variances, and coordinate with warehouse teams to support smooth order fulfillment and optimal inventory levels.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain accurate inventory counts for all book titles across warehouse locations and storage zones.
- Perform scheduled cycle counts, ad-hoc counts and full physical inventories to ensure system accuracy.
- Consolidate inventory locations.
- Replenish primary pick locations.
- Maintain proper labeling, shelving, and storage practices for easy title identification and retrieval.
- Support process audits and implement best practices for inventory accuracy and efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Data Analytics or related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu or a degree
- 2–4 years of experience in inventory control, or warehouse operations.
- Experience in warehouse or inventory management required, preferably in retail or wholesale distribution.
- Proficiency with ERP/WMS systems.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate effectively.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) as required.
- Basic understanding of warehouse procedures and safety protocols.
- Ability to follow instructions and adapt to changing work environments.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and data accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic data analysis.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment: Warehouse setting with exposure to varying temperatures. Frequent standing, bending, and lifting throughout the shift. Use of warehouse equipment and machinery.
