Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Instrument Man / Rod Man (Surveyor Assistant) to support our land surveying team in the field. This role is responsible for assisting the Crew Chief with data collection, equipment setup, and accurate measurements for construction, boundary, and topographic surveys. The ideal candidate is physically capable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities

Assist the Crew Chief with daily survey operations and field data collection

Set up, operate, and maintain total stations, GPS units, data collectors, and related surveying equipment

Hold and position leveling rods, prisms, and targets to ensure accurate measurements

Drive stakes, mark reference points, and flag survey lines

Record field notes and verify measurement accuracy

Maintain and transport survey equipment safely

Perform basic calculations and measurements as directed

Follow all company safety protocols and site-specific requirements

Travel to job sites as required
Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required

Previous surveying or construction experience preferred but not required

Basic understanding of land surveying principles is a plus

Ability to read construction plans and maps (preferred)

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Ability to work well in a team environment
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly

Ability to stand, walk, and work outdoors for extended periods

Comfortable working in uneven terrain and varying weather conditions
