Summary of the Role

The Lead Maintenance Technician provides hands-on technical leadership for facility and production equipment maintenance while supporting the Maintenance Manager with planning, prioritization, and execution of work. This role ensures preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. The position plays a key role in documentation, team development, and cross-department collaboration in a regulated manufacturing environment.

This is a leadership-by-example role requiring strong mechanical and electrical skills, organization, and the ability to guide other technicians.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and perform maintenance on production and facility equipment, including mechanical, electrical, and automated systems
• Troubleshoot and repair PLC- and PC-controlled equipment
• Perform maintenance and repair on stainless steel processing equipment (welding experience preferred)
• Support the Maintenance Manager with work assignment, prioritization, and project coordination
• Ensure preventive maintenance (PMs), work orders, and repairs are completed, documented, and verified in the CMMS
• Monitor critical facility systems and respond to issues as needed
• Coordinate maintenance activities with production to minimize downtime
• Assist with equipment evaluations, repair planning, and vendor coordination
• Maintain spare parts inventory and support purchasing processes
• Train and mentor Maintenance Technicians (Levels I & II)
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards

Required Qualifications

• Technical degree in a maintenance-related trade or equivalent hands-on experience
• 3+ years of electrical and mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing or production environment
• Working knowledge of CMMS systems and basic computer skills (Microsoft Suite, data entry)
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs and documentation
• Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and prioritization skills
• Ability to work independently while leading within a team environment
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

Preferred Experience

• Boilers, HVAC, refrigeration, and process equipment maintenance
• VFDs, motor controls, and automation systems
• Basic understanding of plumbing and electrical codes
• Wastewater or utility system experience
• Ladder logic or industrial control systems exposure
• Experience operating forklifts, scissor lifts, or boom lifts

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 60 lbs regularly (heavier with assistance)
• Ability to bend, climb, reach, and work at heights as required
• Comfortable working in industrial environments including noise, heat, confined spaces, and around chemicals with proper PPE
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
