Position: Building Loader (Structural Steel)
Department: Shipping & Logistics
Reports To: Building Yard Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

Position Summary:
The Building Loader is responsible for safely, accurately, and efficiently loading fabricated PEMB components—including structural steel, framing, sheeting, trim, and hardware—onto trucks for delivery. This role ensures materials are staged, verified, bundled, protected, and secured to prevent damage and support on-time deliveries.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Safely load structural steel, cold-formed members, sheeting, trim, and accessories per load diagrams.

• Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and material-handling equipment following all safety guidelines.

• Verify materials against shipping lists, tag bundles for jobsite identification, and complete load checklists.

• Ensure all loads are properly secured, stable, and compliant with DOT and company standards.

• Maintain clean, organized work areas and support efficiency improvements in loading processes.

Expected Results:
Accurate, damage-free, and on-time truck loads with proper documentation, minimal discrepancies, a safe yard environment, and reliable support for overall shipping operations.

 

Physical Requirements:
Regular lifting of 50–75 lbs, frequent standing, bending, climbing, and reaching, with work in indoor and outdoor industrial environments, including exposure to noise, dust, weather, and moving equipment.

 

Equipment Used:
Forklifts, overhead cranes, chains, binders, straps, banding tools, hand tools, measuring devices, load diagrams, and inventory tracking systems.

 

Skills Required:
Attention to detail, ability to read load sheets and shop drawings, safe equipment operation, teamwork, time management, and strong communication skills.

 

Experience Required:
1–2 years in material handling, shipping, steel fabrication, or a related industrial role, with forklift or overhead crane experience preferred.

 

Qualities Required:
Dependable, safety-conscious, detail-oriented, team-focused, and able to maintain a strong work ethic in a fast-paced environment.

 

Positions Qualified Candidates May Hold:
Forklift operator, warehouse loader, shipping/receiving associate, steel fabrication assistant, or material handler.
