Position Overview: Underground Utility Estimator
An established organization within the underground utility sector is seeking a skilled Underground Utility / WaterWorks Estimator to support ongoing growth and expansion. This role is ideal for a professional with a strong background in utility construction estimating, cost analysis, and project documentation review. The selected candidate will be an integral part of a collaborative team focused on delivering reliable, cost-effective solutions for a wide range of underground infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities Project Review & Scope Development
- Examine construction plans, technical drawings, engineering specifications, and related documents to determine material needs, labor requirements, and overall project scope.
- Identify potential cost drivers, project risks, and constructability challenges during pre-bid review.
Vendor & Supplier Coordination
- Request and evaluate pricing from approved suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive, accurate cost information.
- Maintain ongoing relationships with vendors to stay updated on material availability, pricing trends, and delivery lead times.
Bid Development
- Prepare comprehensive estimates and bid packages for underground utility projects, including stormwater, sanitary sewer, water distribution, trenching, and related scopes.
- Ensure bid submissions are complete, compliant with project requirements, and aligned with company goals for accuracy and competitiveness.
Cost & Change Management
- Track and document project-related cost changes and assist in evaluating change order impacts.
- Support the project team with updated budget information throughout the project lifecycle.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with internal stakeholders—such as project managers, ownership groups, operations personnel, and sales teams—to coordinate estimating needs and project expectations.
- Clearly communicate estimate assumptions, pricing methodologies, and areas of concern.
Compliance & Safety Considerations
- Ensure that estimated work adheres to applicable safety standards, industry regulations, and best practices in underground utility construction.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience & Industry Knowledge
- Prior professional experience as an estimator within the underground utility, public works, waterworks, or civil construction sectors.
- Solid understanding of installation methods involving water, sanitary sewer, stormwater systems, tie-ins, trenching, and related underground infrastructure.
Technical & Analytical Competencies
- Proficiency with estimating software platforms, digital takeoff tools, and standard construction technology.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail when evaluating project requirements.
- Excellent mathematical aptitude for performing accurate calculations, measurements, and cost projections.
Communication & Documentation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with team members, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Ability to read, interpret, and analyze blueprints, civil plans, and technical documentation.
