Gainesville based Insurance Company is seeking a Bookkeeper to serve as a training, advisory, and support resource for local insurance offices statewide. This role emphasizes guidance and education over routine accounting, providing QuickBooks support, assisting with year-end and tax-related processes, reviewing county financial information, and helping resolve IRS, SSA, and state agency notices.
Ideal candidates enjoy teaching, problem solving, and mentoring, and are passionate about helping others apply accounting principles effectively. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential, as this role works closely with office staff across Florida. Travel within Florida is required.
Position Summary
The bookkeeper position is responsible for understanding, interpreting, analyzing, and assisting in communicating account problems for local offices. This position will have the opportunity for on-the-job training to learn how to prepare and assist with non-profit tax returns. This position will also assist in the training of county bookkeepers with QuickBooks, payroll, and cash accounting.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist with QuickBooks and Bookkeeping support for local county offices.
· On-the-job training to assist in preparing end-of-year adjusting journal entries, creating a worksheet for the preparation of all local office federal and state income tax returns (990, 990T, F1120).
· Assist in performing financial reviews.
· Respond to or assist local offices with IRS, SSA, and FL DOR notices.
· Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma.
- At least two (2) year of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or other closely related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with QuickBooks, payroll, and sales tax preparation.
- Certifications as QuickBooks Pro Advisor, Certified Payroll Professional, or Enrolled Agent.
Core Competencies
· Ability to write clear, precise correspondence on complex topics and communicate effectively with government agencies.
· Competence in applying moderately complex mathematical concepts to tax calculations and daily tasks; ability to use and understand basic Excel formulas.
· Ability to interpret instructions presented in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
