Position Summary:

As a Lathe Operator in the manufacturing industry, your primary responsibility will be to operate and maintain lathe machines to produce precision-machined components according to specifications. You will be responsible for setting up the machines, selecting and installing cutting tools, and monitoring the machining process to ensure accuracy, quality, and efficiency. Your expertise in lathe operations, attention to detail, and ability to interpret engineering drawings will be crucial in this role.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate lathe machines to perform turning, facing, drilling, and other machining operations on various materials, including metals and alloys.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, or work instructions to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Install and align workpieces in the lathe machine, using appropriate fixtures and clamping methods to ensure stability during machining.
  • Select and install cutting tools, adjusting tool holders, speeds, feeds, and depth of cut based on material and machining requirements.
  • Monitor machine operations, including cutting speeds, feeds, and tool wear, and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on lathe machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and tooling changes, to ensure optimal performance.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges, to verify part dimensions and tolerances.
  • Collaborate with team members, engineers, and supervisors to troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to machining processes.

Position Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience as a Lathe Operator or in a similar manufacturing role is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications accurately to understand machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Proficient in using precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges, to verify part dimensions and ensure adherence to required tolerances.
  • Familiarity with various lathe machining techniques, such as turning, facing, drilling, threading, and grooving, and the ability to apply them effectively to produce accurate and high-quality components.
  • Proficiency in performing routine maintenance tasks on lathe machines, such as cleaning, lubrication, and tooling changes, to ensure optimal machine performance and longevity.
