Quality Control (QC) Inspector 

Location: Phoenix

Shift: Mon-Fri -6AM - 2:30PM

Position Summary

The QC Inspector is responsible, under limited supervision, for maintaining quality standards by reviewing incoming materials, in‑process components, and/or production parts. This role includes documenting inspection results, maintaining quality records in accordance with company policies, and supporting the complete First Article process from measurement through documentation and submission for engineering approval. The QC Inspector will work closely with Materials departments (Receiving, Production Planning/Scheduling, Inventory Control) to ensure accurate and efficient material processing, as well as with Engineering for First Article clarification and completion.


Duties & Essential Job Functions

  • Perform visual and dimensional measurements—including First Articles—on complex purchased and internal components using tools such as microscopes, calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, gauge blocks, height gauges, and drop indicators.
  • Manage, conduct, and interpret results of component qualification activities (e.g., First Article inspections).
  • Make acceptance or rejection decisions based on established procedures and inspection criteria.
  • Interpret and apply attribute‑based sampling plans (e.g., ANSI Z1.4) and variable‑based sampling plans (e.g., ANSI Z1.9).
  • Manage non‑conforming product through the MRB (Material Review Board) process.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, and Bills of Materials to support receiving inspection.
  • Utilize ERP/MRP systems (such as Oracle) to retrieve and record key information, including product disposition.
  • Inspect purchased parts, internal components, subassemblies, or finished products according to defined mechanical, physical, and/or electrical criteria.
  • Accurately document results from inspections and testing activities.
  • Participate in developing, revising, and updating SOPs for receiving inspection.
  • Assist with writing and updating inspection procedures, protocols, and checklists.
  • Independently determine appropriate inspection setups using available measurement equipment.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of quality control inspection experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Understanding of quality sampling plans.
  • Ability to interpret supplier-provided data.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications for First Article inspections.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to train others in inspection equipment and procedures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly in First Article documentation (tolerances, setup details, etc.).
  • General proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Proficiency with measurement tools such as microscopes, optical comparators, CMMs, calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, gauge blocks, height gauges, and drop indicators.
  • Strong arithmetic skills.
  • Must have strong English written and verbal communication abilities.

Physical Requirements

While performing job duties, the employee is regularly required to read, write, sit, stand, walk throughout the facility, and use standard office equipment. The position requires repetitive use of hands and fingers, reaching with arms, and lifting up to 10 lbs. Occasionally, the role may require moving objects up to 20 lbs., and rarely up to 50 lbs. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
