Job Summary
The Braider Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing braiding machines to ensure continuous and efficient production operations. This role emphasizes core mechanical skills, critical thinking, and cross-functional communication to support operational reliability across shifts and machine types.
Key Responsibilities
-Maintain, repair, and rebuild mechanical components of braiders including drive shafts, pulleys, belts, and bearings.
-Perform preventive maintenance and setup for all types of braiders.
-Conduct diagnostic assessments to determine and resolve mechanical issues such as improper braid tension, belt misalignment, and machine jams.
-Execute changeovers and install or adjust components such as carriers, horn gears, tension springs, cam towers, and traverse towers.
-Apply welding skills to perform basic and advanced structural repairs as needed.
-Lead or assist with gear changes and calibrations to meet specifications.
-Document maintenance activity, audit checklists, and safety inspections with accuracy and timeliness.
-Support and train new or junior mechanics and operators on standard procedures and best practices.
-Communicate effectively across shifts and departments to coordinate maintenance and ensure continuity of operations.
-Perform other duties as required by the department
Core Skills & Competencies
-Mechanical Aptitude: Skilled in using hand and power tools for complex assemblies and repairs.
-Troubleshooting: Able to diagnose root causes and apply long-term solutions.
-Machine Knowledge: Understanding of multiple machine types, their unique characteristics, and standard operating procedures.
-Welding: Capable of basic and advanced welding for structural and mechanical repair.
-Calibration: Knowledge of gear ratios and setup requirements to meet production specs.
-Communication: Clear and effective communicator with both peers and supervisors
Physical and Environmental Expectations
• Regular standing, walking, stooping, and lifting up to 70 lbs.
• Use of hand tools and machinery requires good hand-eye coordination.
• Must be able to hear alarms, communicate clearly, and see fine detail in machine setups.
• Required use of PPE including hearing and eye protection.
• Work environment includes industrial noise and movement across production areas.
Must be able to pass a background and drug test.
