PURPOSE OF THE INTERNATIONAL SPECIALIST POSITION

The International Specialist supports the International Division on day-to-day management across various suppliers and multiple countries. This role plays a vital part in ensuring accurate order execution, international trade compliance, and effective coordination among Costco, vendor partners, and internal teams. The position serves as a key liaison among all stakeholders, adding value to the overall selling process and delivering best-in-class customer service.

 

REPORTING AND SCOPE OF WORK

The International Specialist reports to the Export Manager and provides critical support across all aspects of international account operations. This role is responsible for end-to-end order management, proactive shipment tracking, preparation and review of trade compliance documentation, vendor and customer coordination, and effective written and verbal communication.

The position requires strong multitasking capabilities and the ability to operate confidently across diverse time zones, cultures, and regulatory environments. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong initiative, a solutions-oriented mindset, and a commitment to adding value by identifying process improvements, anticipating operational challenges, and delivering exceptional customer service.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

1.  Corporate Environment

 

  • Collaborate with Managers to implement Executive Sales Team strategy
  • Provide customer service and sales support for both domestic and international accounts
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and operational standards
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary and sensitive business information

 

2.  Role & Responsibilities

 

  • Support management of international customer and vendor relationships across assigned regions
  • Serve as a liaison between customers, vendors and internal teams while providing proactive insight and direction
  • Demonstrate leadership and subject-matter expertise in export regulations, documents and certificates
  • Enter, track, and manage domestic and international orders from placement through delivery
  • Track and reconcile commissions, accruals, and spending related to international accounts
  • Coordinate international export shipments and communicate with freight forwarders and customs brokers

 

  • Prepare and manage export documentation and certificates (commercial invoices, packing lists, COO, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with international trade regulations and customer-specific requirements
  • Address depot and direct shipment refusals with urgency and resolution-focused communication
  • Assist vendors with onboarding, setup documentation, and compliance requirements
  • Facilitate sample shipments within the S. and internationally
  • Assist in generating new and repeat international sales by proactively addressing compliance, logistics, or documentation challenges
  • Prepare sales reports, order summaries, and presentation materials
  • Coordinate and schedule product demonstrations with third-party demo service companies
  • Assist in preparing meeting agendas, notes, and follow-up actions
  • Provide excellent customer service across all points of contact and regions

 

3.  Knowledge / Experience

 

The ideal International Account Specialist candidate will demonstrate proficient knowledge and proven experience in the following areas:

 

  • Experience and understanding of Costco’s programs, strategies, and business objectives
  • Knowledge of exporting and importing shipments
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing documents
