Job Summary

The Water Distribution Technician operates and maintains the water distribution system, including installation and maintenance of service lines and water meters. This position supports daily operations while promoting safe work practices and safety awareness.

Key Responsibilities

• Install water meters, water lines, sewer lines, and fire hydrants
• Read water meters monthly for billing
• Perform utility line locates
• Respond to customer service requests
• Maintain division grounds, structures, and equipment
• Use hand tools and perform manual labor as required
• Perform equipment repairs and general maintenance
• Complete additional tasks as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

·        Knowledge of water distribution system operations and maintenance

·        Working knowledge of service lines and meter installation

·        Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public

·        Ability to operate equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, dump trucks, tapping machines, and air compressors

·        Basic math skills for measurements and calculations

·        Reading and writing skills to complete work orders, reports, and documentation

·        Knowledge of safety rules, operational procedures, and traffic regulations

Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Physically able to safely operate vehicles and equipment
• Ability to obtain ADEM Operator Certification Grade I within 18 months
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Availability for overtime, weekends, and overnight travel for training as needed

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, walking on uneven terrain, bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
