Brake Press Operator

 

 

Our client, a custom metal fabrication and finishing company, in the Rockford area is seeking a Brake Press Operator to join their team. The Brake Press Operator is responsible for accurately setting up and operating brake press machinery to bend and form sheet metal parts to meet engineering specifications. The company is willing to train the right individual. This position works Mon-Fri 7AM-3:30PM and pays $17-$18 per hour based on experience. Job Responsibilities: 

• Set up, adjust, and operate the brake press machine according to specifications, tooling, and job orders.
• Interpret blueprints, work orders, and engineering drawings to determine bend requirements, materials, and tooling.
• Select, install, and align dies and tools for each job to ensure accurate forming.
• Verify material dimensions, thicknesses, and tolerances prior to bending operations.
• Inspect finished parts for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
• Make necessary adjustments to tooling, tooling stops, back gauges, and press settings.
• Follow established safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Job Qualifications: 

• Previous experience operating brake press machinery in a manufacturing or fabrication environment is highly desirable.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and basic geometric dimensioning.
• Skilled in setting up and operating press brakes with precision and efficiency.
• Solid math and measuring skills, including understanding tolerances.
• Familiarity with common shop tools and measurement devices (micrometers, calipers, squares).
• Strong attention to detail and quality focus.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
