Assumes responsibility for the daily clinical operations and patient care. Promptly and professionally assists the doctor in patient care. Performs technical workups, patient interviews and special testing. Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, symptoms, surgery scheduling, procedure education, etc. Returns phone calls to patients and pharmacies. Assists in minor surgery. Maintains patient confidentiality. Scribes when indicated by physicians. Efficiently and accurately reviews patients and documents histories. Accurately performs: Refractions. Lensometry. Keratometry.Tonometry. Visual Fields. Amslers. Muscle Testing. Pupil Exams. Topography. Schirmer’s.
Assumes responsibility for the coordination and performance of ophthalmic photography as assigned by clinic manager/supervisor. Performs clinical ophthalmic photography and diagnostic photographic studies.
Consults with department members regarding use of photographic equipment and services. Creates patient photo records and maintains a cross-references diagnosis/patient database. Evaluates photographic images for inclusion in ophthalmology research and education projects. Maintains photo supply and equipment inventory; reviews and researches all requests for supply purchases. Conducts recall compliance reviews on all photographic equipment and other ophthalmology equipment. Coordinates the training of technicians in the role of ophthalmic photography for clinical and diagnostic purposes.
Assumes responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of clinical instruments and devices. Takes responsibility for the upkeep and review of diagnostic equipment including ophthalmic photography inventory, visual field testing instruments and ultrasound instruments. Maintains and cleans all clinical equipment and devises. Takes inventory and restocks exam rooms and all other patient care areas. Assumes responsibility for the care, storage and privacy of medical records and all personal patient information.
Ensures the proper preparation, documentation, storage and distribution of medical records.
Ensures the confidentiality of medical records.
Ensures that corporate policies are followed regarding copying and dissemination of medical records.
Ensures HIPPA privacy guidelines are followed in the releasing of medical information. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with personnel, departments, and management. Advises department manager/supervisor regarding both patient and clinic problems and concerns. Ensures the timely completion of reports, records, and other documentation.
Facilitates consistency at all levels of clinical operations.
Attends and participates in meetings and committees as appropriate. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective business relations with vendors, patients, professional trade groups, and other employees. Represents to various trade professionals, groups, and vendors. Ensures that professional reputation is maintained.
Ensures appropriate levels of confidentiality regarding operations. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned. Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained. Stays informed of trends and changes in clinical operations and procedures. Completes special projects/duties as assigned by the clinic manager/supervisor or CEO.
