This is a high impact payroll leadership role supporting a complex, multi entity grocery and retail workforce across multiple locations. The Payroll Manager owns end to end payroll execution for both union and non union populations, partners closely with HRIS and Finance, and drives accuracy, compliance, and process improvement. The team offers strong benefits and a hybrid schedule option to be discussed upon hire.
Union and non union payroll administration
- Administer multiple pay structures and rule sets across union and non union employee groups
- Interpret and apply CBA provisions impacting wages, premiums, overtime, holidays, and differentials
- Partner with Labor Relations and HR to implement payroll changes from negotiations
- Support grievance resolution by providing payroll data, calculations, and audit documentation
Compliance, audits, and risk management
- Ensure compliance with Hawaii wage and hour rules, FLSA, and state and federal tax requirements
- Manage payroll audits, internal and external, and support regulatory reviews
- Ensure accurate tax filings, garnishments, and required reporting
Systems, timekeeping, and integrations
- Partner with HRIS on payroll integrations in UKG Pro and UKG Workforce Management
- Validate timekeeping, scheduling, and accrual data prior to payroll close
- Identify configuration or system issues, escalate, and support upgrades, testing, and process improvements
Finance partnership and reporting
- Partner with Finance on reconciliations, GL posting, and labor reporting
- Monitor labor cost trends and variances impacting store and department budgets
- Provide payroll data and analysis for budgeting, forecasting, audits, and labor modeling
Team leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop payroll staff with a service first mindset
- Maintain SOPs, internal controls, and cross training to ensure continuity
- Set clear expectations, accountability, and consistent execution
What the team is looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field, equivalent payroll experience considered
- 7+ years of progressive payroll experience
- 3+ years of payroll leadership or people management experience
- Experience supporting both union and non union payroll populations
- Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, wage and hour, and tax regulations
- Hands on experience with UKG Pro Payroll or similar enterprise payroll system
- Hawaii payroll experience or strong familiarity with Hawaii labor requirements
