Controller Job Summary:
A growing manufacturer in West Michigan is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Controller to oversee accounting and financial operations across two operating companies. This role is critical in managing the company’s financial health during periods of growth by taking ownership of the cash conversion cycle, forecasting liquidity needs, and ensuring strong financial controls.
The Controller will develop, implement, and maintain accounting systems, practices, and procedures that comply with GAAP while providing timely, accurate financial insights to leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong manufacturing finance experience, intellectual curiosity, high ethical standards, and the ability to translate financial data into actionable business decisions.
Controller Responsibilities:
· Own and manage the cash conversion cycle with a target of maintaining cycle time under 60 days
· Forecast and analyze cash flow to ensure liquidity aligns with operational and growth needs
· Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for two manufacturing entities
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, delivering reports to the President by the 15th of each month
· Develop and maintain budgets and forecasts, achieving greater than 90% accuracy for cash flow and P&L projections
· Oversee cost accounting, inventory valuation, and manufacturing variances
· Perform in-depth financial analysis to support operational, strategic, and capital investment decisions
· Establish, maintain, and continuously improve internal controls and accounting policies in compliance with GAAP
· Partner with operations and leadership to improve profitability, efficiency, and financial visibility
· Support and guide accounting staff while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
· Ensure ethical financial practices and safeguard company assets
Schedule & Pay:
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday 8:30am-5pm
Pay: $85,000-$105,000/YR., BOE
Controller Qualifications:
Required:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
· 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience in a manufacturing environment
· Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
· Strong experience with cash flow management and cost accounting
· Advanced Excel skills with the ability to build and analyze complex financial models
· Working knowledge of GAAP and internal control best practices
· High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Demonstrated ethics, integrity, and sound judgment
Preferred:
CPA or CMA certification
Experience supporting multiple legal entities
ERP system experience within a manufacturing environment
