Custodial / Cleaning Technician – Senior & Government Buildings

Position Overview

The Cleaning Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment within senior living facilities and government buildings. This role supports the health, comfort, and security of residents, staff, and visitors by performing routine and specialized cleaning tasks in compliance with facility standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

General Cleaning

  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust all assigned areas
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms, break rooms, kitchens, and common areas
  • Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners
  • Clean windows, glass doors, and interior partitions
  • Maintain floors through buffing, stripping, waxing, or carpet cleaning as needed

Senior Facility–Specific Duties

  • Sanitize high‑touch surfaces to reduce infection risk
  • Follow infection‑control protocols and safety guidelines
  • Maintain a calm, respectful presence around residents
  • Report any safety hazards or concerns regarding resident well‑being

Government Building–Specific Duties

  • Follow security procedures for restricted areas
  • Handle confidential or sensitive spaces with discretion
  • Maintain cleanliness in public service areas, offices, and meeting rooms

Equipment & Supplies

  • Operate cleaning equipment such as floor machines, carpet extractors, and vacuums
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and request replenishment when needed
  • Ensure proper storage and labeling of chemicals

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow OSHA, facility, and state safety regulations
  • Use proper PPE and safe chemical‑handling procedures
  • Report maintenance issues, spills, or hazards immediately

Qualifications

  • Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred
  • Ability to lift 25–50 lbs and perform physical tasks
  • Strong attention to detail and reliability
  • Ability to work independently and follow schedules
  • Must pass background checks required for government facilities
  • Good communication and professionalism when interacting with seniors, staff, and the public

Work Environment

  • Indoor work in offices, hallways, restrooms, and common areas
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and equipment noise
  • May require evening, early morning, or weekend shifts depending on building needs
