The Shipping Clerk is responsible for coordinating all outbound and inbound shipments, supporting drivers, and ensuring accurate preparation and processing of Bills of Lading (BOLs) and shipping documentation. This role is critical to maintaining smooth dock operations, timely shipments, and accurate inventory and freight records.
Key Responsibilities
Driver & Carrier Support; handle all incoming driver requests and paperwork
Serve as the primary point of contact for all drivers
Check drivers in and out, verify appointments, and assign dock doors as needed
Communicate shipping instructions, safety procedures, and load details to drivers
Resolve driver issues related to paperwork, load discrepancies, or delays
Shipping Documentation
Prepare, review, and process Bills of Lading (BOLs) accurately and on time
Verify shipment details including quantities, weights, destinations, and carrier information. Must be comfortable walking on the warehouse floor to do this
Ensure all shipping paperwork complies with company, customer, and regulatory requirements
Maintain organized records of BOLs, delivery receipts, and freight documents
Outbound & Inbound Shipping Coordination
Coordinate shipments with warehouse, production, and logistics teams
Confirm loads are complete, labeled correctly, and ready for dispatch
Track shipments and update internal systems with shipping status
Assist with receiving documentation for inbound freight when required
Inventory & Accuracy
Verify shipment counts against pick tickets or shipping orders
Report shortages, damages, or discrepancies to supervisors immediately
Support inventory accuracy through proper documentation and reporting
Compliance & Safety
Ensure drivers follow safety policies and site procedures
Maintain compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company regulations
Keep shipping and dock areas clean, organized, and audit-ready
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Previous shipping, logistics, or warehouse experience preferred
Experience preparing Bills of Lading strongly preferred
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to communicate clearly with drivers, carriers, and internal teams
Basic computer skills (shipping systems, ERP, or WMS experience a plus)
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the shift
Occasional lifting of up to 25–50 lbs (as required)
Ability to work in a warehouse or dock environment
