Maintenance Mechanic – Steel Manufacturing

Location: Cicero, IL
Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Pay: $28/hr-$40/hr

We are hiring an experienced Maintenance Mechanic for a well-established, high-volume steel slitting manufacturer in Cicero. This is a long-term, stable opportunity with a company that values reliability, safety, and skilled tradespeople.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production equipment, building systems, forklifts, and overhead cranes. This role supports daily production and performs scheduled preventative maintenance to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Troubleshoot and repair production and plant equipment
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PMs)
Lubricate production equipment daily
Replace belts, bearings, motors, and electrical components
Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and machine controls
Maintain and repair steel slitting and packaging equipment
Perform maintenance on forklifts and overhead cranes
Work with hydraulics, PLCs, and AC/DC and three-phase electrical systems
Read and interpret electrical and mechanical diagrams
Perform welding and basic machine shop tasks as needed
Work at heights up to 30–35 feet using ladders or lifts

Required Qualifications

3–5 years of experience in industrial maintenance or plant equipment repair
Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
Experience working with hydraulics, motors, bearings, and drive systems
Ability to work from diagrams, sketches, or verbal instructions
PLC diagnostic experience preferred
High School Diploma or GED preferred

Additional Requirements

Must provide own basic hand tools
Must pass an 11-panel drug screen and physical
Must be comfortable climbing ladders and working at heights
