Job Title: Traffic Control Foreman

Job Summary

The Traffic Control Foreman is responsible for supervising traffic control operations at construction, utility, or roadway work sites. This role ensures the safe and efficient flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic while maintaining compliance with all safety regulations, traffic control plans, and project requirements. The Foreman leads traffic control crews, coordinates with site supervisors, and serves as the on-site point of contact for traffic safety operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead traffic control crews on active job sites

  • Implement and maintain traffic control plans (TCPs) according to MUTCD and local regulations

  • Set up, adjust, and remove traffic control devices including cones, barrels, signs, barricades, and flagging stations

  • Ensure crew compliance with safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies

  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, utility crews, and inspectors to support site operations

  • Monitor traffic flow and site conditions, making real-time adjustments as needed for safety and efficiency

  • Conduct daily job briefings and safety tailgate meetings

  • Train and mentor flaggers and traffic control personnel

  • Complete daily reports, timesheets, and incident documentation

  • Respond quickly and professionally to changing traffic conditions, emergencies, or public concerns

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Previous experience in traffic control, roadway construction, or utility work (foreman or lead experience preferred)

  • Strong knowledge of traffic control standards (MUTCD) and job site safety practices

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

  • Ability to read and interpret traffic control plans and site layouts

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on extended or irregular schedules

  • Ability to lift, carry, and place traffic control equipment as needed

Preferred Certifications (may vary by project)

  • Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) or Traffic Control Technician certification

  • Flagger certification

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30

Work Environment

  • Outdoor work in active roadway, construction, or utility environments

  • Exposure to traffic, weather conditions, noise, and physical activity

  • Early mornings, nights, weekends, and overtime may be required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain alert for extended periods

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

  • Ability to work safely near moving traffic
