Job Title: Paint Prep Associate

Department: Manufacturing / Finishing
Reports To: Paint/Finishing Supervisor

Job Summary

The Paint Prep Associate is responsible for preparing gun safes and metal components for painting and finishing. This role is critical to ensuring a high-quality, durable finish by properly cleaning, sanding, masking, and inspecting surfaces prior to paint application. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while following safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare metal gun safes and components for painting by sanding, grinding, cleaning, and masking surfaces

  • Inspect parts for defects, weld imperfections, rust, oil, or debris prior to paint application

  • Perform surface preparation using hand tools, power tools, and abrasive equipment

  • Mask hardware, hinges, locks, and other components to protect during painting

  • Maintain cleanliness of prep and paint areas to meet quality and safety standards

  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and handling of chemicals/materials

  • Communicate issues or defects to supervisors before parts move to the paint stage

  • Assist paint technicians as needed to maintain workflow and production schedules

  • Perform basic material handling and staging of parts before and after prep

Qualifications & Skills

  • High school diploma or GED preferred

  • Prior manufacturing, metal fabrication, or paint prep experience a plus (but not required)

  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely (grinders, etc.)

  • Strong attention to detail and quality

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs

  • Comfortable working in an industrial environment with noise, dust, and paint materials

  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive motion required

  • Use of respirators, gloves, eye protection, and other PPE

  • Exposure to paint prep materials, solvents, and metal dust

Schedule & Compensation

  • Full-time, Monday–Friday (with occasional overtime as needed)

  • Hourly pay based on experience
