The Vision Program Technician is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a local nonprofits Vision Van. Primary duties include coordinating school site visits, assisting during exams, and ensuring the safe transport, maintenance, and operation of the van and its equipment. 

Responsibilities: 

• Drive the vision van to assigned schools for eye exams and set up for exam days 
• Assist the doctor during eye exams and maintain a clean, organized workspace on the van 
• Manage frame selection, sizing, and ordering of eyeglasses 
• Verify and check in completed glasses, ensuring correct prescription (Rx) accuracy 
• Dispense eyeglasses and complete follow-up calls one week after delivery 
• Communicate with school nurses after exams to report on the number of students seen, glasses ordered, and any repairs needed 
• Schedule and confirm weekly eye exam appointments and send reminders as needed 
• Maintain van inventory and ensure all equipment and supplies are properly stored, serviced, and secure 
• Ensure cleanliness and basic maintenance of the vision van and its equipment 
• Perform other program-related duties as needed to support overall program goals 

 

Qualifications: 

• High school diploma or equivalent required; minimum of one year of experience in an optometric or medical office preferred 
• Willing to submit drug and background screening 
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with optometric terminology 
• Excellent planning, organization, and data entry skills, with experience in billing and general medical office procedures 
• Must be able to walk, stand, and sit comfortably for extended periods (up to 7 hours) while working in a cargo van and school setting 
• Physical ability to bend, squat, and lift while adjusting glasses, handling equipment, and managing supplies in the van 
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and maintain an active insurance policy
