We are hiring for a knowledgeable and results-driven Scrap Purchasing Agent to manage the buying of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials. This role is responsible for sourcing scrap, negotiating prices, maintaining supplier relationships, and ensuring materials meet quality and grade specifications. The ideal candidate understands scrap markets, has strong negotiation skills, and operates with integrity and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

• Purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials in accordance with company pricing and volume targets

• Evaluate incoming materials for grade, quality, and contamination

• Negotiate pricing with suppliers, customers, and vendors based on market conditions

• Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, industrial accounts, and walk-in customers

• Track market trends, pricing changes, and material demand

• Coordinate with yard, scale, and operations teams to ensure smooth material flow

• Verify scale tickets, purchase documentation, and payment information for accuracy

• Ensure compliance with company policies, environmental regulations, and safety standards

• Resolve discrepancies related to material grades, weights, or pricing

• Support inventory management and reporting

Qualifications

• Previous experience purchasing scrap or working in metal recycling

• Strong understanding of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap grades

• Knowledge of current scrap market pricing and trends

• Strong negotiation and communication skills

• High attention to detail and accuracy

• Ability to work in a fast-paced yard or office environment

• Basic computer skills for recordkeeping and reporting

Preferred Skills (Not Required)

• Established supplier or customer relationships in the scrap industry

• Experience with scale systems and scrap management software

• Bilingual skills

• Sales or commodity trading background

Work Environment

• Combination of office, scale house, and yard settings

• Exposure to industrial yard conditions, noise, and weather

• Interaction with heavy equipment and truck traffic
