HR Generalist

Location: Shreveport, LA
Pay: $20–$27 per hour (based on experience)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated HR Generalist to support core human resources and payroll functions in a fast-paced small business environment. This role is responsible for employee onboarding, employee relations, payroll coordination, benefits administration, and HR compliance. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in HR practices along with accounting or payroll experience to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage employee onboarding and offboarding, including paperwork, records, and system updates

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee HR questions and concerns

  • Process or oversee payroll, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payment

  • Reconcile payroll, benefits invoices, and related expenses with accounting records

  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and workers’ compensation

  • Maintain employee files and HR systems with strict confidentiality

  • Support hiring efforts, including job postings, interview coordination, and offer letters

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment and payroll regulations

  • Assist with performance reviews, employee documentation, and policy enforcement

  • Prepare basic HR and payroll reports for leadership (headcount, labor costs, turnover)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field

  • 2+ years of experience in HR, payroll, or accounting (small business experience preferred)

  • Strong understanding of payroll processing and benefits administration

  • Working knowledge of employment laws and payroll compliance

  • Proficiency with HRIS systems, payroll software, and Microsoft Excel

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently

  • Professional, approachable, and comfortable handling confidential information

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience supporting a small business environment

  • Multi-state payroll experience

  • HR or payroll certifications (PHR, SHRM-CP, FPC, or similar)
