Job Summary
Express Employment Professionals – Mesa is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented PCB Assembly Process Engineer to support a manufacturing operation in Tempe, AZ. This role is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) processes to ensure high-quality, reliable, and cost-effective production. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience with SMT, through-hole assembly, soldering processes, and industry quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and optimize PCB assembly processes including SMT, through-hole, reflow soldering, and conformal coating
- Review new designs for manufacturability (DFM) and provide feedback to design engineering teams and customers
- Select, qualify, and maintain assembly equipment, fixtures, and tooling
- Create, maintain, and update process documentation and work instructions
- Monitor production yields, analyze defects, and lead root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives
- Drive continuous improvement efforts focused on quality, efficiency, throughput, and cost reduction
- Train operators and technicians on processes, equipment, and best practices
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, supply chain, and production teams to support production goals
- Ensure compliance with IPC standards, ISO requirements, and customer specifications
- Support new product introduction (NPI) from prototype builds through full production release
Qualifications
- Background in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related production disciplines
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in PCB assembly manufacturing or process engineering
- Strong working knowledge of SMT, through-hole assembly, soldering processes, and PCB materials
- Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001), ESD controls, and quality management systems
- Experience with CAD tools, process modeling, and manufacturing software (e.g., Camtastic, Aegis CircuitCam/Checkpoint, Yamaha Board Explorer)
- Hands-on experience with AOI, X-ray inspection, and electronic test processes
- Knowledge of conformal coating and underfill processes
- Understanding of RoHS and REACH compliance
- Experience supporting high-reliability industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical, or defense
- Familiarity with SMT equipment including Yamaha YCP10, YSM20, and BTU convection ovens
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Education
High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred)
