Job Summary

A School Custodian is responsible for keeping school buildings clean, safe, and well-maintained. This role helps create a healthy and comfortable environment for students, teachers, and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Clean classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, and common areas

• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors

• Empty trash and recycling bins

• Sanitize surfaces to help prevent the spread of germs

• Set up and take down furniture for events or activities

• Perform basic maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs or fixing minor issues

• Report safety hazards or needed repairs to supervisors

• Lock and unlock doors and ensure building security

Skills and Qualifications

• Ability to work independently and manage time well

• Attention to detail

• Basic knowledge of cleaning tools and supplies

• Ability to follow safety rules and procedures

• Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, and bend for long periods

Work Environment

• Works indoors throughout the school building

• May work early mornings, evenings, or weekends

• Regular interaction with students and school staff

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent (often preferred)

• Previous cleaning or maintenance experience is helpful but not always required
