Full Job Description Join a leading structural steel fabrication team in Texas as a Fitter/Welder. You'll fabricate a variety of miscellaneous metal projects, including cutting and welding metal pieces and products using flame-cutting and hand-welding equipment.
Minimum Starting Pay: $22.00 - $30.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare, assemble, and tack weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
- Maintain, organize, and keep work area and equipment in operating condition.
- Hand-weld and/or flame-cut equipment to join metal components.
- Cut and scarf using an oxy-acetylene torch.
- Perform structural welding using FCAW & SMAW processes.
- Align and fit parts according to specifications using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
- Properly assemble and disassemble weld setups.
- Remove high spots and cut bevels using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.
- Reshape metal workpieces to meet established specifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of metals and basic shop fabrication equipment.
- Proficiency in MIG welding with the ability to pass a welding test.
- Knowledge of TIG welding is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Capacity to handle pressure, adapt to changes, and multitask under strict deadlines.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two years of experience in a structural welding environment.
- Ability to pass a Fillet Weld Test.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
- Frequently lift and move materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Constant movement and use of limbs; requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
