Express Employment Professionals of Denton County is looking for an Estimator for a manufacturing facility in Ponder, TX. The Estimator supports profitable growth by developing accurate, timely cost estimates for prefab shelter projects—covering materials, labor, freight, and subcontracted services. This role relies heavily on Microsoft Excel and standardized estimating tools to compile purchasing information, maintain pricing libraries, and pass complete bid packages to Sales and Shop/Production for execution. The Estimator also updates project data throughout the quote-to-order lifecycle to ensure alignment across Sales, Purchasing, and Operations.

Schedule: M-F 8a-4:30p
Pay: $25/hr. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity and pay will increase upon conversion. Able to work remotely after 6 months.

Key Responsibilities

• Estimating & Takeoffs
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for prefab shelters (standard models and custom configurations), including materials, fabrication labor, assembly, freight, installation, and contingency.
• Perform takeoffs from drawings/specifications; interpret scope, options, and bill of materials (BOM).
• Build and maintain Excel-based estimating models, templates, and calculators.
• Pricing & Purchasing Coordination
• Input and maintain purchasing information (vendor quotes, price lists, lead times, MOQ, surcharges).
• Request and track vendor/subcontractor quotes; normalize and compare for accuracy.
• Update cost libraries and item masters to reflect current pricing and availability.
• Sales & Shop Handoffs
• Package and pass finalized estimates, assumptions, and scope clarifications to Sales for proposals.
• Create clear handoff documents for Shop/Production (BOM, cut lists, labor routings, special instructions).
• Flag manufacturability issues; propose value-engineering alternatives.
• Data Accuracy & Updates
• Update estimates and records as designs evolve or pricing changes (change orders, add/deduct alternates).
• Maintain version control and audit trails for quotes and approved orders.
• Track quote status and follow-up dates; support pipeline reporting.

 

 

 

Qualifications

• Experience: at least 1 years in estimating within manufacturing, construction products, modular/prefab, metals fabrication, or closely related industry. (Shelter/structure experience strongly preferred.)
• Technical: Proficient with Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, lookups, pivot tables; familiarity with Power Query a plus).
• Knowledge: Understanding of BOMs, labor routings, material grades (steel/aluminum), coatings, fasteners, and freight/logistics. Familiarity with building codes or utility/site requirements a plus.

Skills & Competencies

• High attention to detail; strong numerical accuracy and data hygiene.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings/specifications.
• Clear written and verbal communication—able to explain assumptions and exclusions.
• Time management—handle multiple bids with shifting deadlines.
• Collaborative mindset with Sales, Purchasing, Engineering, and Shop teams.
• Problem solving and value engineering orientation.
