Job Title: Cost Accountant (Temporary)


Summary

The Cost Accountant is a key member of the Accounting team, responsible for ensuring accurate inventory-related transactions and reporting. This role supports informed business decisions that drive profitability and ensures timely completion of month-end closing activities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with manufacturers and internal operations teams to review and invoice purchase orders for finished goods using EDI and automation tools.
  • Review and process purchase orders for raw materials and equipment in coordination with vendors and internal teams.
  • Validate that purchase order rates match invoices; resolve discrepancies with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Confirm finished goods invoice rates align with cost card pricing; address variances as needed.
  • Partner with manufacturers and R&D teams to review and invoice purchase orders related to plant trials and testing.
  • Process freight and warehousing bills via CSV uploads; review and validate charges.
  • Review and process packaging vendor invoices accurately.
  • Maintain vendor accounts, terms, and oversee the bill-to-payment process.
  • Set up new vendors and assist with processing setup forms.
  • Manage inventory and logistics email accounts.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and general ledger accounts; identify discrepancies and perform timely month-end analysis (e.g., accruals, fluctuation analysis).
  • Monitor and review accounting transactions for accuracy and compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including reconciliations and accruals.
  • Support annual audits by providing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Generate and analyze ad hoc reports as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 2+ years of experience in accounting and/or inventory management
  • Strong sense of personal accountability
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing organization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with NetSuite
  • CPG Industry Preferred
  • Previous cost accounting experience
