Job Title: Key Cutter / Lock Repairer

Job Summary

The Key Cutter / Lock Repairer is responsible for cutting, programming, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of mechanical and electronic locking systems. This role requires expertise in traditional key cutting, electronic and transponder key technology, and lock repair for residential, commercial, automotive, and institutional applications, including doors, cars, mailboxes, and cabinets.

Key Responsibilities

• Cut and duplicate mechanical keys for residential, commercial, automotive, mailbox, and cabinet locks
• Program and clone electronic and transponder keys for vehicles and access-controlled systems
• Repair, rekey, replace, and maintain locks, cylinders, and locking mechanisms
• Diagnose lock and key issues and recommend appropriate solutions
• Service automotive locks and ignition systems, including key fobs and remote-entry devices
• Install and adjust locks, deadbolts, cam locks, cabinet locks, and mailbox locking systems
• Operate key cutting machines, electronic key programmers, and diagnostic tools
• Maintain accurate records of key codes, key types, and customer service activities
• Ensure compliance with security, safety, and legal requirements for key duplication and access control
• Provide customer service, including explaining lock functions and key usage
• Maintain tools, equipment, and inventory of key blanks and electronic components

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Proven experience in key cutting and lock repair
• Knowledge of mechanical locks, electronic locks, and transponder key systems
• Ability to cut keys by code and from existing locks
• Familiarity with automotive key programming and immobilizer systems
• Manual dexterity and attention to detail
• Basic computer skills for programming and record-keeping
• Strong problem-solving and diagnostic abilities
• Good communication and customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Locksmith certification or relevant technical training
• Experience with automotive locksmith services
• Knowledge of access control systems and smart locks
• Valid driver’s license (for mobile or automotive service roles)
