Maintenance Custodian

Location: Saint Joseph, MI

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Pay: $22.00 per hour

Position Summary:

The Maintenance Custodian is responsible for the general upkeep, maintenance, and cleanliness of church buildings and surrounding property. This role ensures that all facilities are safe, functional, and welcoming for parishioners, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in building and property maintenance and takes pride in maintaining a respectful, well-kept environment consistent with the mission of a Catholic parish.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine building maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance
• Maintain church facilities including sanctuary, offices, classrooms, restrooms, and common areas
• Perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs as needed
• Maintain grounds including light landscaping, snow removal, and exterior upkeep
• Set up and tear down rooms for church services, meetings, and events
• Monitor building systems (HVAC, lighting, safety equipment) and report issues
• Ensure facilities are clean, orderly, and meet safety standards
• Coordinate with vendors or contractors when specialized repairs are required
• Follow safety procedures and proper use of tools and equipment

Qualifications & Skills:

• Prior experience in building and property maintenance required
• Working knowledge of general maintenance trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC basics)
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely
• Ability to work independently and manage daily maintenance priorities
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs as needed
• Respectful of and comfortable working in a church environment

Work Environment:

Combination of indoor and outdoor work. May require occasional evening or weekend availability for special events as needed.
