Service Technician

The Service Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and testing on fleet and emergency vehicles. This role includes lube services, diesel engine repair, and specialized maintenance of emergency response vehicles such as fire trucks, pumps, ladders, and related equipment to ensure operational readiness, safety, and compliance with applicable standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, lubrication services, fluid checks, filter replacements, and inspections
- Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles and emergency apparatus
- Inspect, maintain, repair, and test emergency vehicles including fire trucks, pumps, ladders, hydraulic systems, and auxiliary equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Conduct safety inspections and operational testing to ensure equipment readiness
- Maintain accurate service, inspection, and repair documentation
- Identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions
- Operate diagnostic tools, hand tools, and shop equipment safely
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Respond to priority or emergency repair needs as required
Qualifications
- Experience as a lube technician, diesel mechanic, or heavy-duty/emergency vehicle technician preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documentation
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not required
- ASE certifications or emergency vehicle technician (EVT) certifications a plus
- Ability to lift heavy parts and equipment (up to 75 lbs) and work in a shop or field environment
- Strong attention to detail, safety-focused, and dependable
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Shop and field-based work
- May require flexible hours, on-call availability, or emergency response support
- Exposure to noise, grease, chemicals, and varying weather conditions
