Job Summary

The Funeral Director Assistant supports licensed funeral directors in the preparation, coordination, and execution of funeral, memorial, and burial services. This role requires professionalism, compassion, attention to detail, and the ability to interact respectfully with grieving families while ensuring all operational and logistical tasks are completed efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist funeral directors with the planning and execution of funeral, memorial, visitation, and graveside services

  • Greet and guide families and guests in a professional and compassionate manner

  • Prepare facilities for services, including arranging seating, floral displays, and audiovisual equipment

  • Assist with the transfer, preparation, and care of deceased individuals in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements

  • Coordinate transportation of remains, family members, and funeral staff as needed

  • Complete and organize documentation, permits, and service records

  • Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of chapels, visitation rooms, and preparation areas

  • Support administrative tasks, including answering phones and scheduling appointments

  • Comply with all health, safety, and legal regulations governing funeral services

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Prior experience in funeral services, healthcare, customer service, or hospitality preferred

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sensitivity in emotionally challenging situations

  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Ability to lift and move up to [50–75] pounds with assistance
