What You Get to Do!
The Sustaining Engineer is responsible for providing ongoing engineering support for released products throughout their lifecycle. This position focuses on product quality improvements, cost reduction initiatives, manufacturing support, technical troubleshooting, and product design updates necessary to maintain and improve product performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
• Investigates and resolves technical issues on released products through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Initiates and manages engineering change orders (ECOs) and product updates to address manufacturing, quality, supply chain, or field performance needs.
• Supports production teams by troubleshooting design-related issues, providing technical guidance, and implementing design enhancements.
• Collaborates with Quality, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Field Service teams to assess product performance and identify improvement opportunities.
• Conducts analysis of warranty claims, returned materials, and customer feedback to drive product improvements and prevent recurrence of issues.
• Develops and executes test plans to validate design changes, ensuring compliance with internal standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Maintains accurate and updated technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and bills of materials (BOMs).
• Participates in cost reduction initiatives by identifying alternative materials, improving processes, and optimizing product designs.
• Ensures that all sustaining engineering activities are performed in accordance with company policies, quality system standards, and regulatory guidelines.
What You Will Bring…
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline or a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in sustaining engineering, product support engineering, or a related technical role.
• Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturability (DFM) principles.
• Experience managing engineering change processes and configuration control.
• Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and PLM systems.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software and computers.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Experience working in a regulated environment (e.g., medical devices, aerospace, automotive).
• Familiarity with quality management systems such as ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 and Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
• Hands-on experience with reliability testing, failure analysis, and FMEA processes.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from peers, managers, and personnel from various departments.
• Ability to gather and analyze information skillfully, identifying and resolving problems in a timely manner.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to work in office, lab, and production floor environments as needed.
