Job Title: Automotive and Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Pay: $21 - $24 an hour, DOE

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Automotive and Heavy Equipment Mechanic to perform skilled maintenance and repair on gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of hands-on mechanic experience, a CDL Class B driver’s license, and the ability to operate and troubleshoot a variety of equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Automotive Repair & Maintenance

• Diagnose, tune, and repair engines, including spark plugs, timing, valves, carburetors, and ignition systems.
• Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble major components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials.
• Repair or replace parts including pistons, rods, gears, bearings, carburetors, generators, radiators, alternators, starters, distributors, and pumps.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems and perform rewiring of ignition, lighting, and instrument panels.
• Inspect, adjust, and repair brakes, shocks, steering, and front-end alignment.
• Maintain and repair air brake and hydraulic systems.
• Replace and install vehicle accessories including headlights, radios, mirrors, heaters, and windshield wipers.

Heavy Equipment Repair & Maintenance

• Diagnose, repair, rebuild, and maintain heavy equipment such as motor graders, backhoes, and bulldozers.
• Replace defective engines, components, attachments, and implements.
• Troubleshoot and rebuild hydraulic systems, cylinders, pumps, and power take-off units.

Additional Duties

• Weld and repair broken or cracked frames, bars, plates, and other metal components.
• Replace batteries, fluids, tires, and perform routine preventive maintenance.
• Operate equipment and perform occasional manual labor as needed.
• Test repaired equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Supervise assistant mechanics and other maintenance personnel as required.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

• Strong verbal, written, and listening skills.
• Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, parts lists, and technical instructions.
• Proficient in using hand tools, machine tools, and automotive/equipment diagnostic equipment.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Familiarity with first aid procedures (*on-the-job training provided).

Education, Experience & Requirements:

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in automotive and heavy equipment repair.
• Valid CDL Class B driver’s license.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, evening shifts, and travel as needed.
• Provide personal hand tools.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to see, hear, and communicate clearly.
• Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely.
• Lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and pushing/pulling.
