Data Center Supervisor

Located in Round Rock, TX

Salary: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour DOE

A leading technology infrastructure provider in the area is seeking a Data Center Supervisor to join their Fiber Team. This role is a working leadership position, combining hands-on fiber installation/splicing with supervision of a field crew.

The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, proven leadership ability, and the desire to support complex fiber deployments in data center environments.

 

Schedule: Full Time

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour DOE

 

Responsibilities

·         Lead a crew of fiber technicians in installing data cabinets, racks, and Optical Distribution Frames (ODF).

·         Plan, assign, and oversee installation of pathway systems (basket trays, ladder racks, waterfalls, cable managers).

·         Supervise fiber pulling (inside plant/outside plant), labeling, and routing; perform hands-on installation when needed.

·         Oversee routing, dressing, and securing of fiber and patch cords in cabinets and panels.

·         Perform and supervise splicing of single-mode and multimode fibers, including high-count cables.

·         Ensure accurate fiber prep, cleaning, protection, and management in splice trays and enclosures.

·         Establish test plans and guide use of OTDR, OLTS, power meters, VFL, and inspection scopes.

·         Review and approve insertion loss, return loss, reflectance, and continuity test results.

·         Interpret complex OTDR traces; diagnose problems and implement corrective action.

·         Maintain accurate splicing records, fiber assignments, test results, and as-built documentation.

·         Coordinate daily site activities with project managers, general contractors, and customer reps.

·         Ensure field activities comply with TIA/EIA, BICSI, FOA, NEC, OSHA, and other industry standards.

·         Travel approximately 33% as needed.

·         Must be able to travel to Taiwan for a 3-month paid training program.

 

Qualifications

·         Extensive hands-on experience with fiber installation, splicing, and testing.

·         Previous experience supervising field crews on data center or telecom projects.

·         Proficient with fusion splicers (Fujikura, Corning) and fiber preparation tools.

·         Strong ability to read and interpret network drawings, splice schematics, and rack elevations.

·         Advanced use of OTDRs, OLTS, power meters, VFL, and inspection tools.

·         Associate’s degree or technical school required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

·         3–5 years relevant technical experience plus 1–3 years supervisory experience.

·         Strong communication and documentation skills.

·         Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in environments with noise, heights, vibration, and temperature variation.

 

Preferred Certifications

·         FOA CFOT / CFOS

·         BICSI Technician or higher (e.g., RCDD)

·         OSHA 10 or OSHA 30

·         Manufacturer training (Corning, Fujikura)

·         Experience in hyperscale or enterprise data centers
