Data Center Field Tech

Located in Round Rock, TX

Salary: 24.00 - $30.00 per hour

Express Employment Professionals has partnered with a technology infrastructure provider in the local area. We are seeking a Data Center Field Technician to support the installation, splicing, testing, and documentation of fiber optic systems within data centers and telecom environments.

The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on technical work, has strong attention to detail, and is committed to delivering high-quality, standards-compliant installations.

 

Schedule: Full Time

Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour

 

Responsibilities

·         Install data cabinets, racks, and Optical Distribution Frames (ODF) according to drawings.

·         Install and label pathway systems such as ladder racks, basket trays, waterfalls, and cable managers.

·         Pull, route, dress, and secure pre-connectorized fiber and patch cords.

·         Perform single-mode and multimode fiber splicing, prep, cleaning, and protection.

·         Terminate and inspect fiber connectors; ensure low-loss performance.

·         Use OTDR, OLTS, power meters, VFL, and scopes to certify fiber links.

·         Document test results and update fiber and splicing records.

·         Assist with troubleshooting issues and repair support.

·         Follow all OSHA, NEC, TIA/EIA, and company safety standards.

·         Travel approximately 33% as needed.

·        Must be able and willing to travel internationally to Taiwan for a 3-month training program

 

Qualifications

·         1–3 years of experience with fiber installation, splicing, or testing (data center/telecom preferred).

·         Hands-on experience with fusion splicers and fiber prep tools.

·         Ability to read and follow splice schematics and rack elevations.

·         Familiarity with OTDRs, OLTS, and fiber inspection tools.

·         Understanding of OSHA and NEC requirements for low-voltage work.

·         High School Diploma required; technical training preferred.

·         Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in environments with noise, heights, or temperature variation.

 

Preferred Certifications

·         FOA CFOT / CFOS

·         BICSI Technician or above

·         OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
