VDP Operator

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up VDP jobs using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, or other prepress software.
• Import, link, and manage variable data (text, images, QR codes, barcodes) for personalized print materials.
• Proof and check all variable data for accuracy before production.
• Collaborate with clients, account managers, and the production team to clarify job specifications.
• Troubleshoot issues with file formatting, fonts, or graphics before printing.
• Ensure compliance with print production standards, color management, and file resolution requirements.
• Maintain organized file structures and project documentation.
• Operate and monitor digital presses for VDP production, ensuring quality and consistency.
• Provide recommendations for optimizing workflow and efficiency in VDP processes.

 

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in graphic design, printing, or related field preferred.
• Proven experience with Adobe InDesign, including advanced features for variable data printing.
• Knowledge of commercial printing processes, file preparation, and prepress standards.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality output.
• Ability to manage multiple jobs and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic knowledge of color management, PDF workflows, and RIP software is a plus.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

 

Skills Needed

• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign.
• Experience with variable data printing workflows.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to proofread and check data accuracy.
• Understanding of commercial print production processes.

 

Work Environment

• Office and print production environment.
• Computer-based work with periodic interaction on the production floor.
• Requires sitting and working at a computer for extended periods.
