Core Drilling Operator / Driller
Job Description

A well-established drilling operation in the West/Central Alabama area is seeking a Core Drilling Operator (Driller) to join their team. This position supports multiple core drilling rigs that collect coal core samples used for future mining assessment. The Driller will work under the direction of the Core Drilling Superintendent and will oversee at least one Core Drilling Assistant.

We are looking for a reliable, mechanically inclined individual who can work safely, handle physical demands, and manage daily drilling operations.

Responsibilities:

• Work in full compliance with MSHA and company safety guidelines and ensure crew members do the same

• Operate core drilling equipment and assist with tripping in/out core drill stems and samples

• Tighten/loosen pipe and core bits

• Perform routine maintenance on the drilling rig and all related equipment

• Ensure equipment is prepared for cold weather at the end of shifts

• Climb ladders and get on/off trucks and trailers as needed

• Lift up to 75 lbs

• Provide daily direction for the Operator Assistant

• Assess situations and make decisions with minimal supervision when required

• Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain

• Support safe rigging practices and operate trucks, forklifts, and lifting equipment

Requirements:

• Mechanically inclined

• Must hold a valid Alabama driver’s license (clean driving record required)

• Class B CDL is a plus

• Experience in welding, torching, or cutting is a plus

• Familiarity with rigging, forklifts, lifting equipment, and general equipment operation

• Ability to work long shifts, often exceeding 12 hours

• Willingness to work primarily day shift, with occasional night shift depending on project needs

• Estimated pay range: $18–$25/hr, dependent on experience and qualifications
