Salary: $70-85k/year

Location: Approximately 60 miles outside of Cedar City, UT.

Full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Summary/Objective

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting Company’s financial operations, with primary responsibilities in accounts payable processing, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close activities. This position ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial data while supporting internal controls, audit readiness, and continuous improvement within the accounting function.

 

Essential Functions

 

Accounts Payable (AP) – Primary Focus

  • Process, review, and verify vendor invoices for accuracy, proper coding, and required approvals.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Maintain vendor records and support onboarding of new suppliers.
  • Assist with weekly check runs and electronic payment processing.
  • Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies and internal control requirements.

 

General Ledger & Month-End Close

  • Prepare, record, and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and reclassifications.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of accounts.
  • Assist with fixed asset tracking, depreciation entries, and capital project cost reviews.
  • Support month-end reporting processes, including variance explanations and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain organized documentation for internal and external audit support.

 

Financial Support & Reporting

  • Assist with annual budget preparation and periodic forecasting activities.
  • Provide financial data, analysis, and reports to management as needed.
  • Maintain adherence to GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls.

 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (experience with Dynamics, Sage, QBO, or similar preferred).
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reconciliation.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to confidentiality.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. 

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Potential for hybrid work.

 

Travel

Occasional travel between local mine properties may be expected for this position.

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience preferred; mining or industrial experience a plus.
  • 1-2 years of experience with accounts payable systems and general ledger accounting required.

 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Authorization to work in the U.S.
