Small Engine Mechanic – Full-Time | Helena, MT

About the Role:

As a Small Engine Mechanic, you’ll be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of landscaping equipment and small engines. This includes both mechanical and electrical systems. You’ll work with everything from ignition systems and wiring harnesses to battery-powered components and control modules.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair small engines, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other landscaping equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups.
• Troubleshoot and repair a wide range of electrical components, including:
  • Ignition systems
  • Battery charging systems
  • Wiring harnesses and connectors
  • Switches, relays, and fuses
  • Lighting and control panels
  • Electric start systems
• Use diagnostic tools to test voltage, continuity, and resistance.
• Fabricate or modify parts as needed to ensure proper equipment function.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed.
• Ensure all work is completed in a timely and professional manner.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in small engine repair.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Familiarity with Kohler and Walker engines is a plus.
• Basic fabrication skills (welding, cutting, etc.).
• Electrical certification for vehicles or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
