Excavating & Pipe Laying – General Labor Job Duties

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist with excavation activities using hand tools or supporting equipment operators.

• Prepare trenches for pipe installation by cleaning, grading, and ensuring proper depth and alignment.

• Lay water, sewer, storm, or utility pipes according to grade specifications.

• Backfill and compact soil around installed pipes to maintain structural integrity.

• Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment at job sites.

• Follow instructions from foreman or equipment operators to support daily project tasks.

• Maintain safe working conditions by following OSHA and company safety procedures.

• Set up and take down job site barricades, shoring, and safety supports.

• Operate small equipment such as compactors, trench shovels, levels, or pipe lasers (if trained).

• Perform site cleanup, debris removal, and general labor tasks as needed.

• Assist with verifying pipe measurements, slopes, grades, and elevations.

• Report hazards, damaged tools, or equipment issues to supervisors promptly.
