OTR Truck Driver – Job Duties

Primary Responsibilities

• Operate a commercial tractor-trailer safely over long distances, often across multiple states.

• Transport freight according to assigned routes and delivery schedules.

• Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer to ensure safe operation.

• Maintain compliance with DOT regulations, FMCSA rules, Hours-of-Service (HOS) requirements, and company policies.

• Plan routes efficiently, considering weather conditions, traffic patterns, road restrictions, and delivery priorities.

• Communicate with dispatch regarding load status, delays, breakdowns, or routing issues.

• Operate electronic logging devices (ELDs) and maintain accurate driving, mileage, and fuel records.

• Perform minor maintenance tasks, fuel the truck, and report mechanical issues promptly.

• Ensure accurate completion of pickup and delivery documentation, including BOLs, receipts, and signatures.

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the truck.

• Provide professional customer service at all pickup and delivery locations.

Additional Duties (as needed)

• Track trip expenses, submit required paperwork, and maintain compliance with company reporting procedures.

• Follow all safety protocols and participate in safety meetings or training.

• Represent the company professionally on the road and at customer locations.
