Job Description

Express Employment Professionals is hiring a Punch Press Machinist for a leading metal fabrication/manufacturing facility. This is a full-time, highly skilled position requiring advanced knowledge of punch press setups, tooling, blueprint interpretation, and precision inspection.

We are looking for a tenured, detail-driven machinist who can independently set up, operate, adjust, and troubleshoot punch press machinery, ensuring high-quality stamped parts and consistent production flow.

Responsibilities

As a Punch Press Machinist, your daily duties will include:

Setting up punch press machines (CNC or manual), including die installation, alignment, and calibration.
Programming or modifying press settings such as stroke, tonnage, feed rate, and tooling sequence.
Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine material specs and punch patterns.
Selecting and installing appropriate dies, punches, and tooling for each job.
Performing first-piece and in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and tape measures.
Monitoring runs to maintain tight tolerances and prevent defects.
Troubleshooting tooling wear, misfeeds, alignment issues, or machine faults to reduce downtime.
Performing routine machine maintenance, lubrication, and safety checks.
Logging production data, scrap counts, and quality results accurately.
Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area while following all safety standards.

Requirements

Tenured punch press machining experience required (not entry-level).
Ability to independently set up, program, and run punch press equipment.
Strong blueprint-reading skills and understanding of tolerances.
Proficient using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
Solid knowledge of tooling, dies, and metal stamping processes.
Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical production work.
Reliable, consistent work history (employment verification required).
Safety-focused, detail-oriented, and quality-driven.

Skills & Qualifications

CNC/Manual punch press setup and operation.
Tooling knowledge (die changes, punch alignment, strip layout).
Experience with coil-fed or sheet-fed stamping lines (preferred).
Strong math and measurement skills.
Preventive maintenance and basic machine repair capability.
Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines.

Shifts & Hours

Full-time schedule
1st and/or 2nd shift opportunities available depending on facility needs
Overtime may be available as production requires
