Salary: $22.00 - $26.00
The Structural Steel Fitter is responsible for laying out, fitting, and welding steel and aluminum components to assemble various structural forms such as frames, columns, struts, and other building elements. This hands-on role requires the ability to read drawings, calculate measurements, operate machinery, and ensure product conformance.
Read and interpret shop drawings and blueprints
Layout and tack components accurately
Operate hand tools and fabrication machines (grinders, saws, drills, torch, press, etc.)
Fit, align, weld, and assemble steel structures
Operate forklifts and other shop equipment
Perform repairs and modifications to steel components
Ensure products meet specifications and safety standards
Assist in directing and leading team members as needed
Maintain a safe and clean work environment
Perform other duties as assigned
High school diploma or GED preferred
1–3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and training
Ability to read tape measures, shop drawings, and perform basic math calculations
Proficiency in interpreting diagrams, schedules, and verbal instructions
Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong reasoning and problem-solving abilities
Frequent standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting
Regularly lift up to 25 lbs; occasionally lift up to 100 lbs with assistance
Must have full visual range including peripheral vision and depth perception
Requires good physical condition due to the demanding nature of the work
Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, humidity, fumes, and airborne particles
Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures
Work is performed in a loud to very loud environment with heavy machinery
