Executive Director

Located in Vallejo, CA

Salary: $21.00 - $28.00

Position Overview The Executive Director will serve as the chief strategist, operator, and advocate for a no-kill shelter committed to saving lives and strengthening the human-animal bond. This is not a fundraising-only role. The ED will be responsible for:

 

• Shelter Management: Overseeing daily operations, animal care protocols, staff supervision, and volunteer coordination.
• Strategic Fundraising: Designing and executing campaigns to secure sustainable funding—including their own compensation.
• Community Engagement: Building partnerships with local governments, businesses, and residents to elevate the shelter’s visibility and impact.
• Organizational Development: Implementing systems for transparency, efficiency, and long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities: 

 

Shelter Operations

• Supervise intake, medical care, adoptions, and enrichment programs.
• Ensure compliance with local and state regulations.
• Lead staff and volunteers with compassion and accountability.
• Develop and implement shelter policies and procedures.

Fundraising & Revenue Generation

• Launch donor campaigns, grant applications, and sponsorship outreach.
• Create earned income streams (e.g., training services, retail, events).
• Cultivate major donors and legacy giving opportunities.
• Track and report fundraising metrics transparently.

Leadership & Governance

• Collaborate with the Board of Directors to set strategic goals.
• Provide regular updates on shelter performance and financial health.
• Represent the shelter in public forums and media.

Pay Range: $21.00 - $28.00 per hour DOE
