Yard Spotter: Job Description, Requirements, and Responsibilities

Being a yard jockey/spotter is a great job! Yard jockeys/Spotters focus on moving semi-trailers in a safe manner and may have other responsibilities related to safety.

The yard jockey moves semi-trailers around a yard, unloading and offloading valuable loads.

 

What Are the Responsibilities?

The yard jockey will move trailers to and from the loading dock. When a truck driver comes to an operation to pick up their load, the yard jockey will have moved it into place so that it is ready for them. In a single shift, a yard jockey can move around 100 trailers.

 

Requirements:
- Valid CDL A with a clean driving record
- Proven experience as a truck driver or in a similar role
- Strong knowledge of local traffic laws and regulations
- Ability to lift heavy objects and load/unload trucks safely
- Good communication skills for interacting with clients and team members
