Job Description — General Laborer

Position: General Laborer
Location: Liberty, Anderson, Westminster, SC
Department: Field / Paving / Road Construction
Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

As a General Laborer you will support paving crews and construction teams in day-to-day operations. This role involves working outdoors, handling materials, assisting in paving and site preparation, and helping maintain crew productivity and safety on the job.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of work sites, including shoveling dirt, stone, and asphalt.

• Help spread asphalt using hand tools (lutes, shovels) and tamping equipment.

• Support flaggers and traffic control personnel when needed.

• Back up dump trucks to paving machines and guide drivers for safe positioning.

• Apply tack coat using spray wands.

• Operate or assist with compacting equipment in tight or specified areas.

• Help with base preparation, grading, and site cleanup.

• Assist with the loading and unloading of materials.

• Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Perform other general labor tasks as directed by foremen or supervisors.

Qualifications / Skills

• Previous experience in construction or paving is a plus but not always required.

• Willingness to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

• Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs or more.

• Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.

• Valid driver’s license preferred but not always required depending on role.

• Commitment to safety and following site-specific safety rules.

Working Conditions

• Primarily outdoor work on roadways, paving sites, and construction zones.

• Exposure to heavy equipment, noise, dust, and hot materials (asphalt).

• May require working early mornings or long days depending on project schedule.
